Summertime Granita Dessert

Here is a fun and healthy recipe from Personal Chef Tony Lison in Green Bay. You can use the mixed frozen fruit and cantaloupe from the July Traditional Package to make it, or any other fresh or fresh frozen fruit.

Ingredients:
4 cups fresh or frozen fruit, diced or cut up
1-1/2 cups lemonade or water
3/4 cup sugar

Directions:
Place a glass, enamel or stainless steel non-coated 9x13" pan in the freezer to chill. Puree the fruit in a blender or food processor until smooth. In a saucepan, boil the liquid and the sugar to dissolve, then cool it. Combine the cooled sugar-liquid with the pureed fruit in the chilled pan and place back in the freezer. Every ten minutes or so, run a wooden spatula or a fork through the fruit mixture until it becomes frozen and grainy (hence the name “granita”). Serve in chilled glasses for dessert or just a treat. This is best eaten the day you make it, as it may try to form a solid block if left too long. Caution: This healthy dessert tends to become addictive to children!
