In all my years working with SHARE, I haven’t seen such turbulent economic times as these. It is like the early 80s all over again, but now the situation seems more complex and harder to understand. The one thing most of us can be sure of is that too many people are facing really tough times, and we don’t know how long it will stay this way.
In the face of this, people are rightly tightening their budgets and holding on to their money. Good idea! Another good idea is allocating your workplace giving donation to SHARE this year, through the Hunger Relief Fund of Wisconsin. As a person with a job, you may be able to help others make it through these hard times. Even a small amount from each paycheck really adds up over the year.
The Hunger Relief Fund is included in federal, state and Milwaukee-area campaigns—so you can find us in the roster of available charities. If we’re not included, encourage your human resources department to add us. If your workplace offers the United Way of Greater Milwaukee campaign, you can find us on the back of the pledge form—look up the number and be sure to write “SHARE” next to the number.
We joined the Hunger Relief Fund because 100% of your donation will come directly to us. All the administrative costs are donated by Hunger Task Force, which handles the paperwork and outreach for the fund at no charge. That means every penny given will go to the work of ending hunger in Wisconsin.
What people can always count on in hard times is one another. You can help now, and I ask you to give with a generous heart. Working together, we can be sure that people in our communities do not go without good, nutritious food. Thank you so much for sharing what you can.
