I remember being told as a girl, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” That was a little hard to understand back then. After all, the excitement of the holidays included dreams of a new Barbie doll or some other coveted toy. Fortunately, my mom made sure the most fun part of the holidays were the simplest things, like inviting my friends over to bake cookies for neighbors.
Most people I know have special holiday traditions. It is a time to reach out to others and believe in miracles. This year, with the continued economic downturn, it will be hard for many people to celebrate in their usual ways. So many are out of work and struggling to get by. If you are working now, there is a special opportunity to help others this year by allocating your workplace giving donation to SHARE through the Hunger Relief Fund of Wisconsin.
The Hunger Relief Fund is included in federal, state and Milwaukee-area campaigns—so you can find it in the roster. If the fund is not included at your workplace, encourage your employer to add it. If your workplace offers the United Way of Greater Milwaukee campaign, you can find the Hunger Relief Fund on the back of the pledge form—look up the number and be sure to write “SHARE” next to the number.
SHARE joined the Hunger Relief Fund because 100% of your donation will come directly to us. All the administrative costs are donated by Hunger Task Force, which handles the paperwork and outreach at no charge. That means every penny given will go to the work of ending hunger in Wisconsin.
What people can always count on in hard times is one another. If you can help now, I ask you to make the Hunger Relief Fund part of your holiday traditions. Working together, we can be sure that people in our communities do not go without good, nutritious food. Thank you so much for sharing what you can.
I wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving. May you be abundantly blessed by the joys of the holiday season.
