When I was growing up, I remember waking up on Thanksgiving morning to the delicious aroma of roasting turkey. My mom usually had to work on holidays, so she had to get an early start on our family’s holiday meal. Off she went to work, and each of us kids had assignments. My job was to make a fruit salad and bake pies. My brother peeled and mashed the potatoes. My sister set the table. When mom came home, she was tired. But because she planned ahead, we were able to share a special family meal together. It was even more special because we all played a part.
Like now, I know that times were hard when I was growing up. Regardless, my mom always made sure that we had what we needed. We learned to appreciate simple things and to be thankful for what we had. Mom cultivated in us the ability to be rich in spirit and encouraged us by her example to live a generous life. This is what Thanksgiving has always meant to me.
This year, our holiday theme is Share Food, Share Family, Share the Season. With this in mind, we have put together delicious meal packages to help save you time and money. You can do this by purchasing a dinner for someone you know, or donating money to SHARE and we will find a deserving family on your behalf. Just talk to your local SHARE site coordinator or call our main office for details.
