Breaking The Fast

If there were one thing you could do to improve both your physical and mental performance plus help maintain a healthy weight, would you do it? Well, it’s as easy as eating breakfast!

Breakfast is important for everyone. And it is especially important for children, who perform better in school when they eat breakfast. Here are some common excuses and ways to get past them!

I skip breakfast to lose weight. People who skip breakfast usually eat more calories. They’re often hungrier during the day and eat more total calories through snacking and at other meals. Also, eating breakfast helps because our bodies process food better when we eat smaller, more frequent meals.

I don’t like typical breakfast foods. Don’t let that stop you! Any nutritious food makes a good breakfast, especially if it contains several food groups and some lean protein.

I’m not hungry in the morning. Breakfast doesn’t have to be big. Start your breakfast habit with something small—like a hardboiled egg, a banana or some milk.

I don’t have time for breakfast. Keep it simple and prepare the night before. Some quick breakfasts include: raisin toast with peanut butter and a glass of low-fat milk; cereal, milk and a banana; a low-fat yogurt smoothie with fruit; or a hard-boiled egg and toast.

Breakfast isn’t hard to do, so make it a family habit!
